My condolences to the sisters and the Fanning family especially Geraldine. I left Mount Carmel, Strabane Convent in 1967, taught in London for 40 years. I constantly praise of the warmth, kindness and generosity that I experienced during my years at Strabane. Thank you.
— Geraldine Scanlan (Deeny)
Sincere sympathy to Brian and all the Fanning family. May she rest in peace

Fond memories of Sr. Carmel and of her great friendship with my Auntie Mary - Sr. Benedict. She was a very special person and was a wonderful example of Christianity in action in the community. May she rest in peace.
— Maureen McKenna (Culligan)
In my final year in St. Mary’s Training College, Belfast, I spent my 3 months teaching practice with Sr. Carmel, Sr. Ignatius & Sr. Mechtilde in the junior classes in Strabane primary school & was invited back to join them as a teacher in Sept. 1964.
I learnt more about teaching from Sr. Carmel than I did in college. She was an inspiration to me & I tried to model my teaching career on the example she gave me, both her methodology & her love & respect for the children she taught.
I have such happy memories of the 3 years I spent there.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear of the death of Sr Carmel. She was a lovely lady with a smile and kind word for everyone. For many many years she was a wonderful loyal friend to my aunt Sr Benedict. My sympathies to the convent and Sr Carmel’s family. May she rest in peace.

Our sincere sympathy on the passing of the gentle soul of Sr. Carmel

When I was in extreme distress many years ago, she, Sister Benedict and the other nuns in the Convent were very generous in taking loving care of me. They were in effect another family for me as the members of my immediate family had found it necessary to resume their occupations far away from Strabane, leaving me on my own. God bless her and grant her eternal rest.
— Mchael Harron
So sorry to learn of the passing of Sr Carmel. I had the pleasure of meeting her and Sr Benedict on many occasions out about in Strabane.
She will be sorely missed as are all the community of nuns who brought and gave so much to the community of Strabane.
I wish to offer my sympathy to her Mercy sisters and her family.
May she rest in peace in her heavenly home.
— Attracta McCay
I would like to pass on my condolences to the family and friends of Sr Carmel. I have such fond memories of her attending St Anne’s primary school and the convent where she was principal. Always together with Sr Benedicte.

She was a great friend of my late father Angelo Vaccaro and indeed the rest of my immediate and extended family. I will never forget the kindness she showed myself and my siblings during my father’s wake and funeral.

She was such a special person who has made such an impact on everyone who knew her. May she rest in peace.
— Arianna McDevitt (nee Vaccaro)
I’m so sorry to hear that Sr Carmel has passed away. Sending my sincere condolences to her community of the Sisters of Mercy and all the Fanning family. Sr Carmel was a very special nun. I have so many beautiful memories of her kindness and her ability to radiate the love and compassion of her vocation. She was a wonderful teacher who valued all the abilities of her students and included everyone. I’m so grateful that I had her example in my primary school days and still treasure a prayer card she gave me as part of our class preparation for Holy Communion. May her beautiful soul rest in peace and she enjoy her heavenly home with her Lord.

May the gentle and kind soul of Sr Carmel rest in peace. She always showed me great kindness and I always enjoyed visiting her and Sr Benedict with my husband and daughter when we came to Ireland on holiday. I will be forever grateful to her for her wise counsel and listening ear in the 1980s. Deepest sympathy to the Sisters of Mercy. A huge loss to the town of Strabane. May she rest in peace.

Sr. Carmel, beloved nun of the Sisters of Mercy. Sr. Carmel taught me in Primary 3. I remember her for her kind, caring ways and sense of humour. In latter years, when I met her by chance, she always remembered who I was and stopped to chat. Poor Sr. Benedict will be lost without her “sister”, in so many ways. May she Rest In Peace. Amen 🙏❤️
