A Poem for Sonny.

It was a sad day, lunchtime bulletins announced your demise.
Last Dance,Chicken and chips in the rough, time to say goodbyes.
Generations; Girl friends Mammies and Boys ,sang along to your rousing Medleys.
Taking care of your cares, songs of love and sadness you intertwined them all.
With Manys a heart was broken
After that imaginary ball.
You were our night out,
Always A gent,
Time for all.
You loved the crowd, but most of all they loved You.
Many kind deeds you done unknown ,only to few.
Your recordings remain with us,
Let us remember you when we play.
You will be missed by someone very special that walked lifes path with you every day.
When the Lord is at the gates to receive you, I hope to you he will say,
Come on in Sonny, theres no cover charge Today.

Mark Darley.
Pax. Sonny.

May you rest in peace. a lovely man, happy days listening to you.
— all your Kilkenny fans.
I performed with Sonny many times as he became the cabaret star he was meant to be. Prior to that, we met many times on the road in our respective Showbands. Whether before fame and after, Sonny [or "The Badger" as we affectionately called him] remained the same, a funny, decent "head" who charmed everyone he met. Sonny worked hard for his fame and success, and was always ready to help out for any cause. He was a rare ould Dubliner who will always be a giant to those who knew him, worked with him and enjoyed his gifts which he shared so freely. God be with you Sonny! Our prayers are with you Sheila and kids.
