We were so saddened to hear of Richard's death. He was a force of nature and Liadán loved him as a swim coach. We have great memories of him poolside encouraging everyone and having fun. He was always good humoured. We are thinking of Jayne and the family at this time.

We only met you once Richie (alongside Jayne) at the Rory Gallagher festival in 2023. What a night it was! And we kept in touch after as well. It’s a shame we weren’t able to meet again due to circumstances, but you were a top guy and a true gentleman. We are shocked & saddened by this news. There are no words to suit but we offer our deepest & dearest condolences to Jayne, your family and friends. Fly high my friend

I extend my deepest sympathies to Richard’s family and loved ones. There was no denying he had a great character, and was always full of spirit. On pool deck, Richard certainly left a lasting impression, with his relentless encouragement for swimmers, and how he always made time to catch up with myself and others after training sessions. We never once had an conversation where he didn’t make me laugh or smile, a testament to his uplifting presence. Rest in peace, Richard.

Very sorry to hear of Ritchie’s untimely death.

We stumbled across Ritchie some eight years ago, coaching in the Great Northern pool. Our very young daughter wanted to learn to swim and Ritchie took her gently under his wing.
His time was almost up in Bundoran - our loss, Sligo’s gain.
We remember him fondly - a lovely, kind and inspiring man.
