Pat and Sally ran a very popular public house in Ballitore for many years.
In addition, Pat opened a cinema in the village in the 1950s when he converted an old storeage warehouse in Cockpit Lane. Residents of Ballitore and surrounding areas were delighted with this development.
Movies were screened on Sunday and Wednesday nights. The cinema continued through the 50's and 60's.
Pat, through his contacts always managed to get the new blockbuster movies soon after release sometimes before cinemas in bigger towns in the region.
Before the main event, Pat would show very interesting and educational 'shorts' such as travelogues, Pathe News, etc.
Pat also managed to get the early cinema series of 'Shazam' and 'Zorro'. A sure-fire way of getting people to return every night to keep abreast of the unfolding stories.
At that time large colour posters were exhibited in the windows of O'Connors Pub advertising forthcoming films to whet the appetite of movie buffs.
Thanks Pat for the cinema, the entertainment and the memories of youth.
May The Lord now grant eternal rest to Pat.
— Pat & Aine Foley Newbridge/ Ballitore
