Professor Heelan was my mentor for many years, both in and out of university. Even after I moved to Tokyo I in 1989 I kept in touch with him. He was and is one of a kind; a true great spirit and wonderful human being. He will be missed in Ireland, Japan, the United States, and too many other countries to count. It was a great honour to know him and I will never forget him. RIP my dear friend.
