We have fond memories of working with Dr Ritchie as students and later junior doctor and midwife in Erinville and Victoria.
He safely delivered our first two in the the Victoria-such a warm caring doctor and inspiring figure to young healthcare professionals.

May he Rest in Peace.

Dr. Ritchie looked after me during my two pregnancies and made me feel loved, cared for and a very important person. His work with the Family Planning Clinic in Tuckey Street was a real blessing to all those who needed its services. May he rest "safe in the arms of Jesus". Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.

Just heard today- I was away . Truly special person , caring, kind , ahead of his time in the care and respect he extended both to his patients and his colleagues . A man of honour. Feel privileged to have known him during his working life. May his legacy of good deeds and kindness be a comfort to you all .

I am sorry to learn of Dr Ritchie ‘s death. I worked with him as a young doctor in the Family Planning Clinic when it was seen a a radical thing to do. Dr Ritchie was kind, thoughtful, respectful and a splendid role model. I had the opportunity to acknowledge his work at a meeting in St James Hospital in Dublin at which I was speaking. It is on the work of Dr Ritchie that our current approach to women’s health has been built. His inherent modesty forbade him acclaiming his achievements but they are there in abundance. May he rest in peace.

Jean I am so very sorry to learn of the death of Edgar. He was a lovely gentle man and a wonderful doctor. I have lovely memories also of your classes in your lovely home in Cork where you made us pregnant ladies feel so special. Thinking of you and your family at this very sad time. Sheila O Driscoll

Doctor Ritchie was a great man and a pioneering Doctor who helped so many women when there was no help available. I was privileged to help in his clinic in Tuckey street in Cork. I have never forgotten how wonderful he was to all our women and how much he helped everyone of them. He will be sorely missed. Joy and Jonathan, My deapest sympathy at the passing of your father/grandfather. May the Lord comfort you both at this time. I never had the pleasure of meeting Edgar as an adult but he delivered me and both my sisters in the Vic back in the 80's. My parents have spoken of the gentleness and calmness he brought to every situation.

Dr Ritchie was revered nationally for his courageous pioneering leadership of family planning in Ireland in the 1970s especially in Munster. A doctor and pastor who stood for his family, his patients and the members of his community. We were lucky to meet him. Those close to him will miss him greatly.

So very sorry to learn of Dr. Edgar sad passing. It was my great pleasure to serve alongside him and his dear wife Jean on KASI, Killarney asylum seekers initiative for a number of years. Ed, as he was affectionately known, was great to be around, he had a serenity that was infectious. I read all the tributes to him and they encapsulated all that he was and stood for. His departure leaves all who was touched by his good acts and deeds and society as a whole, a poorer place and yet his legacy will live forever and go on like an inextinguishable star. We wish to offer our sincere sympathy to his dear wife Jean and family on their most grievous loss. That he is with his maker tonight and is enjoying the rewards earned throughout his stewardship in this life, is assured.

Thank you for been there for me at a very sad time in my life.The kindness you showed to me was beyond measure .May you rest in peace Dr Ritchie .
