Billy remains one of the people that left a lasting impression on me when I was at Holy Redeemer. Warm, hospitable and endlessly joyful he was always able to find time and above all, he was empathic with a rare insight into people for whom life was hard. I can hear him laugh and recall him making fun of almost anything. I doubt anyone who knew Billy ever felt themselves to be less because he was kind even when difficult things needed to be said. I know you will miss him so much because he loved his family and delighted in every small detail that makes up the moments of the lives of each of you. I would have liked to pay my respects in person but I am abroad and will not be back till thursday. Be assured of my thoughts both remembering Billy and hoping that these early days are helped by the warmth of so many of us who were glad that Billy is part of our stories too. Marie, John, Paddy & Tony it was a gift to me to have been welcomed to your home so often. You had someone quite unique in Billy and may that energy and joy and practical sense of what matters, give you all a heart to continue to live well while learning to live without a man who was entirely constant and reliably the same.

The wit, the laughter, the joker, the man who could lift our hearts on the darkest day is now silent and we are the poorer.
