Humanist Funeral Service

The Humanist Service

Information about humanist funerals can be found on our website www.humanism.ie

Humanist funerals are composed individually with the family concerned but generally follow this pattern:

  • MUSIC as the coffin arrives

  • OPENING WORDS by the celebrant

  • CONTRIBUTIONS/REFLECTIONS by family and/or friends which may include readings of poetry or prose

  • MUSIC can be interspersed with these spoken pieces

  • CLOSING WORDS including some philosophical thoughts on life and death

  • MUSIC as curtains close (crematorium) or as coffin is carried out

Contact details of celebrants can be found on the website and all enquiries will be handled with sensitivity.

Our grateful thanks to Brian Whiteside, Director of Ceremonies - HAI, for his contributions to this piece.
