Dear Marie , Michael, Christopher and Catherine Ann & extended Heaney family.
We wish to join the millions of people around the world who feel deminished by Seamus's passing.
We all have different reasons for our connections to him but they mean a lot to all of us and have given meaning and enrichment to our lives.
We had the pleasure of meeting you both with Des & Mary Kavanagh on a couple of occasions and we treasure those encounters.
We will pray for you all for the strength to overcome this unmeasurable loss but take heart from the fact that he was a giant of literature and humility who's legacy will grow with each passing year and surely ranks with the greatest poets of all time.May God bless his soul,Michael & Margaret Kilroy

As a people we are proud of you Seamus and rejoice that you were one of our own,so identifiable and accessible. You were a literary giant with the common touch;the golden thread that captured our lives in simplicity and depth and revealing our ordinary ways in the extraordinary power of your words. In you we found a poet and scholar so great that many of us will continue to follow over the centuries like the 8th century author of "Pangur Ban". Your reading of this poem brought me to a new height and understanding. We thank God for the gift of your life and work and from a distance we say goodbye.

Saddened that Seamus has died, and condolences to Marie and all the family. -- Seamus has been my guiding voice, and I have loved him and his work. Saddened too that there will be no more breath-taking work from my hero. Very lucky to have met him many times, in Ireland and here at the University of Michigan where he read to beyond capacity appreciative audiences -- students and those of all ages who found him inspiring. (We had a mutual conection with the bog -- I grew up in the (Lindsay) Gaeltacht bogs of Erris, Co. Mayo.) And I just missed Seamus at Carysfort in the 1970s -- "Ar rath De i gconai go raibh a anam ."

A tragedy of the greatest degree it is that we will never again receive just born writings from this great and gentle man, yet blessed are we that his fields, no matter how often they are turned, will always present our eyes and hands with newly discovered lambs.
Thank you, Mr Heaney, for being so kind to this inferior poet.
God bless you and your family.
