My condolences to Joe’s nieces & nephews. I was once a young work colleague of your lovely Auntie Mai in Dublin many moons ago when I was a lad of just 20 years. I was entrusted with helping her relocate to her beloved Beara upon her retirement. We enjoyed a lovely weekend of hospitality in Joes home. I had never been to Cork before then let alone the Beara Peninsula. As I delivered a car load of Mai’s bits & pieces to Derrymihan we got lost driving through Cork City before Mai directed me through Macroom and the Healy Pass. We got a puncture in Macroom and after loading the lot out of the booth we discovered the spare was flat too. We got back on track after buying a tin of liquid puncture repair gunge in a garage that kept us going. Joe got the punctures x 2 repaired for us later that night and he had a great laugh listening to our travails of that eventful days journey. I think he too realised that Auntie Mai had selected “the scenic route” to CTB. I hope to visit their place of rest this summer. May they both Rest in Peace.
