We worked together at Glen Abbey in the sixties, and after work we regularly went on training runs with Declan Walsh in the mountains. It was our version of altitude training. Johnny was great company and he regaled us with great stories and experiences.
He now meets his maker, and can relate to him or her an incredible track record, and a life of wonderful achievement.

I remember Johnny starting the running club up in Virginia farm. I played football and I was not into running (a bit lazy)but I admired from a distance the dedication Johnny put into his sport and how he encouraged a group of kids who wanted to do something different other than play football. There was very little else available back then in Tallaght and he nurtured many of the young people to aim high . A true sportsman and a legend of Tallaght . Sincere sympathy to the family . Gone but never forgotten.
— Old Tallaght youth

When my daughter, Olivia Tyrrell expressed an interest in running about 8 years I was told to go to the track at Tallaght and ask for Johnny. I can honestly say that I had never met anyone like this man. He took my daughter under his wing, he nurtured and encouraged her. He radiated warmth and kindness. He only ever spoke words of encouragement and I was truely touched by his gentle ways. Olivia learned so much about running but more importantly, she learned the value of giving, of kindness and of respect. Johnny was a true gentleman . We are lucky to have known him .
The Tyrrell Family, Clondalkin.

As a fellow runner from the Northside Raheny Shamrocks and then studying with Johnny for first time Youth and Community work we had alot in common on the road running front.

It was 1990,s and he wanted to develop running in Tallaght its nice to see with others he developed Chuculainn A.C.

A lovely man that always came across in our class with no airs or graces just wanted to see change happen through running in improving lives in his community.

Rest in peace Johnny Keep Running Up There a lovely man.
