I have such fond memories of his kindness and hospitality during my time in Ballina and my trips to New Jersey. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. The McGintys lived right across the road from us in Aughleam and John was a great childhood friend of my late brother Niall and myself. We were also great friends when we all lived in the Bronx all those years ago. Inwood park,in the Bronx was a great meeting place for the Erris brigade-the Monaghans,McGintys,Maguires and the Cosgrave brothers. Our deepest sympathy to Nuala,John's sisters and grandchildren. Ní bheidh a leithidi ann go deo arís.
I would like to dedicate this little poem that I wrote to our beloved friend John and the extended McGinty family.
Poem For John
The news came to us quietly,
Like a whisper in the night.
Dear John had joined the angels;
He had fought his final fight.
Like the call of the lonesome curlew,
On a windswept Blacksod shore;
We lament the loss of a loved one,
Whose voice we'll hear no more.
At springtime when the lilies,
And sweet daffodils start to grow;
We'll remember John,our forever friend,
The best we'll ever know.
