Both Liz and I were deeply saddened to hear that Foster had left us. He was a colossus in our Newbridge College teams of 1969 and in winning the School’s Cup in 1970. His spirit and determination was legendary and his belief in his own ability to make us better went into his working life as well.
Never afraid to state his opinion, he was smart, decisive and fair to everyone. He was very popular among his peers and with the school staff because was a sound lad with no ego and always looked at life with his glass half full. A great guy and a great loss to his adored children.
My abiding memory of Foster was the schools cup semi final v Clongowes. It was 6-6 and minutes to go. We were not going well to put it mildly, and Foster catches a Lineout on the half way line and it’s off like a bull in a China shop, knocking and swatting off tacklers. Finally taken down 5 yards out under the posts we get a scrum. A drop goal from that put us through. What a man. Then in the final he scores a try to help us to a 19-5 win over Blackrock.
With all that he was grounded and had time for everyone. A kind man, a good man, a gentleman. MQ xxx

Before he made his mark on the world, Foster was a boarding student in Newbridge College OP. For anyone in the College at the time, he was a beloved character who made his mark on the rugby team of 1970, which famously won the Leinster Senior Cup, probably the best schools rugby competition in the world!

The Lord have mercy on his sweet soul, and on the souls of his teamates, many of whom have died before their time. Our sincere condolences to his family and close friends.

My deepest sympathy to Foster's family.

I worked with Foster for many years at State of MA Healthcare. He was my friend, mentor, always listened to my rants and guide me to a solution. He always had a smile for me, sharing stories of Ireland and eventually started teaching me Irish. He got a kick watching the confused faces of people when I went around the office saying "conas atá tú". We had lunch in November 2023 with another friend and talked about upcoming travel plans. His passing was just too soon.

Foster, you will always hold a special place in my heart. Until we meet again, slán leat mo chara.
