Very saddened to hear of the passing of Fr. Jimmy and condolences to the extended Walsh family. Jimmy was a wonderful and caring pastor, especially during times of deep grief. His erudite sermons were extraordinary and carefully interspersed with lines of poetry. He also gave us the Easter Dawn Mass in Oughterard which was very special to be in attendance. Sincere condolences to Fr Jimmy's family and friends. We have fond memories of Fr Jimmy when he first arrived at St Melitus church and the Irish Chaplaincy based in Finsbury Park in the late 1980s to 1990s. He had a great positive influence on the eight teenage Masterson siblings, whilst growing up in challenging inner London conditions. Always had wise words in his sermons, loved to chat and give advice, sang great Irish songs and played his guitar, and quoted long poetry verses. He was the first person I ever heard rapping to poetry, before it was trendy, whilst on the busy night bus back to Finsbury Park! My Mum and Dad were very fond of him also and he kept in touch over the years. A bright star has left the planet now and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
— Helen Masterson
My very sincere condolences to Jimmy's family.

We knew him as Fr. Jimmy, Jimmy, brother, son, Celtic poet, priest and friend.

In the words of Yeats: The Stolen Child'

Away with us he's going,
The solemn-eyed:
He'll hear no more the lowing
Of the calves on the warm hillside
Or the kettle on the hob
Sing peace into his breast,
Or see the brown mice bob
Round and round the oatmeal chest.
For he comes, the human child,
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than he can understand.'

I'm sure there was a party organized in heaven upon his arrival. He is probably giving pointers to Yeats and Kavanagh on the finer points of poetry.

RIP Jimmy.
